| Mike on the day he joined Penguin in October 1980 …. he is in fact opening a bottle of Champagne (although it might be Pomagne) to celebrate my joining the illustrious publishing House. |
I joined Penguin in 1980 as assistant rep in the North West of England , where I am originally from , and progressed to achieving the heady heights of Area Representative for the West Midlands at what has been described by some as “indecent haste”. After two years of living amongst two million people with a speech impediment I was promoted to Area Manager for the Nordic Territories working for the esteemed fellow e-lag Tony Moggach who taught me most of what I know.
I travelled widely on Penguin business over the following thirty years taking in all the continents except ironically Antarctica, Penguin Homebase as it were, by which I mean where Penguins come from, rather than an out of town DIY shopping store for flightless birds.

| Mike in India some years later and after more than a few bottles of Champagne have passed under the bridge presenting something to somebody or other for no doubt some good reason. |
In 2007 I took over the reins as CEO and President for Penguin India and spent three amazing years amongst the colourful and wonderful Indian book trade.

In 2010 I moved to Toronto as President and Deputy Chairman of Penguin Canada and returning to England at the end of 2012.
I am at present Executive Director of HMA literary agency , home to bestselling authors David Hair and Sebastian Castell .
